Be Secure - Feel Secure (BSFS) - Enhancing community trust & well-being in Piraeus

UIA Expert | Collaboration Commencement

Mrs. Edna Peza Ramirez is an architect and urbanist specializing on safe public spaces and her consulting expertise was requested under her role as an Urban Innovative Actions Expert for the BSFS project in Piraeus, a project that aims to improve security in public spaces through CPTED (Crime Prevention through Environmental Design) and citizen engagement.

She is the founder of CITY-CITÉ-CIUDAD, a startup focusing on collaborating with urban actors to improve safety in public spaces at a human scale. She is also the executive director of CPTED France.

Originally from Mexico, she lives in France, and has been involved in projects of city making in several European countries.

Edna is the author of books, articles, and conferences on issues of feelings of insecurity in public space – particularly for women – as well as on matters of citizen participation as means to improve public spaces, modern architecture, and issues of the Global South.

The kick-off meeting between the UIA expert for BSFS and the consortium took place on the 11th of September, 2020. During our first meeting, we discussed the challenges of our venture and we were given insight on how to handle them.

The BSFS team is looking forward to the next steps of our fruitful collaboration with Mrs. Peza Ramirez as her expertise in the urban security field will be a helpful guidance throughout the progress of the BeSecure-FeelSecure (BSFS) project.
